Debt Free Advice is proud to announce that our Video Advice Kiosks has won the Best Service Delivery Innovation award at the Third Sector Awards 2024.

Debt Free Advice is a coalition of charities, led by Toynbee Hall, that has been providing face-to-face financial guidance to those in debt for nearly 20 years. With a network of partners across London, the coalition ensures free, impartial advice is accessible to those in need. The onset of the pandemic disrupted traditional face-to-face services, leading the team to develop the innovative Video Advice Kiosks. These kiosks offer confidential, free debt advice inside soundproof booths, where users can connect to a debt adviser within 90 seconds via a simple green button on a tablet.

Since the kiosks’ launch, they have been deployed across Greater London in food banks, community centres, GP surgeries, libraries, and even prisons. The initiative has facilitated 5,162 video conversations, offering immediate support to those struggling with debt. The impact is clear: clients have reported an average financial improvement of £1,200, with 99% expressing satisfaction with the service. The kiosks have also helped democratise access to debt advice, overcoming challenges like travel constraints and illness, especially during the pandemic.

Matt Dronfield, Managing Director of Debt Free Advice, said:

“We are absolutely thrilled to receive this recognition for our Video Advice Kiosks. This project is about breaking down barriers to ensure that anyone struggling with debt can access the expert advice they need, wherever they are. This award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our entire team and motivates us to continue pushing the boundaries of how we deliver support and help even more people take control of their financial wellbeing.”

The judges of the Third Sector Awards praised the service for its innovative use of technology, stating:

“The use of new and innovative technology to democratise access to debt advice impressed the judges through its application, reach and impact for the target audience.”
